Leave the car behind when you accompany trick-or-treaters
Add
If your broom is in the shop, accompanying your trick-or-treater may mean driving along-side them. With roughly 36 million kids in the US out trick or treating, that’s a scary amount of fumes being emitted. And since every two minutes of car idling consumes the same amount of gas required to drive approximately one mile, you might want to choose more eco-conscious ways of accompanying Dracula like walking or riding your bike along side them.
How to save gas while trick-or-treating
It doesn’t take a magician to save gas while trick-or-treating. Follow in the steps of emissions-free broom-travelers and you’ll be charming your way to lower emissions (and lower Hallow-costs) in no time.
- Use your skeleton legs: If you’re a child at heart, dress up with Barbie or Batman and walk from house to house as they collect their sugary treasures. This is a great opportunity to meet your neighbors and make a few new friends!
- Ride on two wheels: Hop on your bicycle and ride down the road as your kids knock on doors. (You can dress up, too!) Pack a spare Halloween goodie bag or two to lighten their load when the candy gets too heavy. If you really want to get into character, trick-out your bike with streamers or lights!
- Hop the ghost train: If you're travelling any distance for Halloween, hop on the train or bus. There are sure to be many other goblins aboard.
