Disposable resources?
You may be over your diapering days, Mom, but it's good to know the stinky truth: Disposable diapers use three times more energy, 10 to 20 times more raw materials, and two times more water than cloth. And according to the US Environmental Protection Agency, 18 billion disposable diapers—or 3.3 million tons—are sent to landfills each year, where it takes them 500 plus years to break down. In fact, disposable diapers, a product used by only a small portion of the population, are the third largest source of landfill waste.
