I have been using CFLs for years and with the newer, smaller bulbs it's even easier to start replacing.
I've just realized as I write that there is one of the older CFLs (made by GE) in my living room in the "always on" lamp - you know, you have one too, mine is the one by the front door. I have NEVER changed that bulb, IN THE SIX YEARS WE'VE LIVED IN THE HOUSE.
The long life also makes it more convenient to use these sorts of bulbs in those hard-to-change places (porch ceiling lights, bathroom fixtures, sealed ceiling fans). There are also some I've seen at Home Depot that have different types of light, but I've not yet tried those since I don't have any burnouts at the moment.
