Climate Energy freewatt system
Add
The freewatt system uses proven Micro-CHP (Combined Heat and Power) technology to generate heat and electricity, by combining a high-efficiency gas furnace or boiler with a natural gas engine/generator module manufactured by Honda of Japan. The system transforms 83 to 93 percent of the energy content of the fuel consumed into heat and electric power (compared to conventional central power plants that typically operate at about 30 to 40 percent). An adding bonus: It's microcomputer-controlled, so you or your service provider can communicate with your freewatt over the Internet through a web-based interface.
The freewatt system won’t supply all your electricity, but in the northern half of the US, it will supply a significant percentage—as much as 4,000 to 5,000 kilowatt-hours per year (an average home uses about 8,000 to 10,000 kilowatt-hours).
Currently available in eastern Massachusetts through Keyspan Home Energy Services, initial availability of the freewatt system will be in colder regions of the US, such as the Northeast and northern Midwest. Further distribution will follow in states that have "net-metering" which allows for selling electric power back to your local power grid.
